​Four Underfloor Heating Myths, Debunked

There are a few misconceptions when it comes to underfloor heating. Let’s take a look at four myths when it comes to floor heating systems.

Myth 1: Underfloor heating is expensive to run
Underfloor heating is an investment that pays off in the long run. Because the system is more energy-efficient and requires less maintenance, you will find your energy bills and overall system costs are much lower than traditional heating systems.

Myth 2: It is difficult to install
Electric underfloor heating is not as difficult to install as some professionals may think. UFH can be installed, tested and commissioned in one single phase. It can take an average room to be fully set up in about 20 minutes, meaning an average size house can be installed in less than a day.


Myth 3: Underfloor heating is only suitable for new homes.
There is no doubt that if you are building a new highly-insulated home that underfloor heating can be easily added into the build. But if you have an existing home, electric floor heating systems are easy to install. This is called retrofitting and Electric underfloor heating is well-suited to retrofit projects. The heater is very thin and does not raise the floor height visibly.


Myth 4: Underfloor heating reacts too slowly to be of any use

You can program your floor heating when to start and stop to ensure that the room is at your desired temperature at a given time in the day. This setting is called auto mode and if used in this way, underfloor heating systems are very responsive and far more economical to run.
