Features & Benefits
Marmox tile backer boards thermal insulation properties make them the ideal solution to compliment underfloor heating systems. About 50% of heat created by underfloor heaters is absorbed by the concrete slab. When Marmox boards are used, most of the heat by the heating element is reflected upwards into the tiles.
Electrical underfloor heating systems installed with Marmox insulation board are safe, proven over many years to be much more energy efficient with considerable reduced heating up times compared with direct installation of heating wires on substructure without any insulation. Marmox underfloor heating insulation is recommended to prevent high energy loss.
Product Details
Marmox Boards are made from CFC and XPS extruded polystyrene foam bonded with layers of fibreglass reinforced polymer cement. The surface of reinforced polymer concrete is perfect for tile adhesion, waterproofing or plastering.
Marmox Boards are perfect for use in all dry and wet areas as they will not absorb water and provide great thermal insulation.
Installation
Marmox insulated tile backer board can be installed on both concrete and timber floors.
Fixing to concrete subloors
The concrete surface must be clean before applying the board.
New concrete slabs should be cured before fixing Marmox insulation boards.
Apply a bed of flexible adhesive to the concrete slab with a notched trowel, boards then to be roughly bedded in a staggered pattern, ensuring that no voids remain beneath them.
When the the tile adhesive is dry, tape all the joints with the fiberglass tape. For wet areas, waterproofing can be applied directly over the fixed insulated tile backer boards.
The underfloor heating system can then be installed according to the manufacturer's recommendations before the tiler follows with a screed or tiling.
Fixing to timber subfloors
Timber floors must be rigid, checked for flatness.
The floor must be dry. Apply suitable tile adhesive layer with notched trowel. Boards then laid in a staggered pattern, fully bedded to ensure no voids remain under the boards.
When adhesive dries apply fibrglass tapeto the joints.
Secure the boars with screws and washers. Use 15 screws per board with min. 30mm from the edge.
For wet areas, waterproofing can be applied directly over the fixed insulated tile backer boards.
The underfloor heating system can then be installed according to the manufacturer's recommendations before the tiler follows with a screed or tiling.
